- To unwind
- Enjoy surfing
- Eat all you can
We arrived in Sabang Beach by 8:30 am (Saturday).
After asking every lodge near Bay’s Inn (fully booked) we finally found our room at Elaine MM Lodge Inn with balcony facing the Beach worth 800php, fan only, with t&b and good for 4 pax. And I found it very cheap compare to our previous room at Bay’s Inn which cost us 800php, no view from the beach, fan and good for 2 pax only.
After changing clothes (ready to surf), we have our super heavy breakfast at Hungry Surfer/Bay’s Inn Restaurant for their Bfast buffet worth 170php each.
We also looked for the featured Volkswagen converted to grilling station which was televised to try their meal but it’s still closed.
While walking, a group of surf instructor approach us, and I don’t know but I was attracted by their friendly approach to try their surf school, they mention that they are newly opened but they’ve been teaching from the other surf school, anyway, we are looking for a surf school, so without second thought we decided to try them.

Mike – 0999- 4770173
I highly recommend them, especially my instructor – Mike. We only have 1hr surf lesson but since we also have 4 hrs board rentals trying to apply their teachings, they gave us discount with the rate and Mike also assist me for another 1 hour without additional cost. He just wanted me to learn surfing alone which is very hard especially the paddling and having the right timing with the waves. I love them since they are friendly or maybe because their Surf school is only new, but nevertheless I felt like I found new friends not only surf instructors. Also they give big discount 🙂
They also offer a convenient stop-time board rental; well it depends on the number of their guest of course because of their limited quantity of surf board.
Cute conversation with Kuya of Freedom Surf School
Me – bakit po Freedom name nyo? (Why you named your surf school – Freedom?)
Kuya – kasi pag mahilig sa rock and tawag Rocker, pag reggae naman Rasta… ang mga kanta nila tungkol sa Freedom. Kaya yun… (Because the lover of rock music is called Rocker, if reggae music they are called Rasta… and their theme songs (Rasta) is sometimes all about Freedom. That’s why…)
Me – ah… ang haba pala ng explanation hehe (ah… that’s a long story/explanation…)
We started by 10:00am with demo first before jumping to the water – 10:00 to 11:00 1hr Surf lesson,
then 11:00 to 1:00 pm continue the board rental (without instructor).
Rest for 30 mins to 1 hour and eat lunch
Pong continues his board rental;
Jhe preferred to rest;
And I actually have second thought if I’ll continue since my body is screaming already especially my arm for paddling. But then it’s now or never and never to waste the 400php and give up…
2:30 – 3:30 pm I continue my board rental.
After surfing return to our lodge and wash-up,picture picture muna 🙂
and take the tricycle going to the town to visit the Museo de baler and Quezon House (both are closed already) and went straight to Gerry Shan’s buffet meal for early dinner (5:00 pm).
Since we are all full, we decided to walk back to the beach. Stop over to the store to buy drinking water. And drug store to buy Salonpas hehe – for body pain. The ladies assisting us are so sweet and friendly… here are glimpse of our conversation
Local – galing kayo sa beach? Rosy cheeks 🙂 (You came from the beach? You have rosy cheeks.. (Smiling))
Me – opo… thank you po.. (Yes… thank you… (Feeling happy because of the compliment regarding my cheeks)
Local – taga san ba kayo ineng? (Where you came from?)
Me – Manila po (still smiling)
Local 2 – mag-iingat kayo ha… wag kayo pumunta sa malalim (Be careful… don’t go to the deeper portion of the water…)
Me – opo… thank you po… (Yes… thank you…)
Their fiesta will be held next week and asking us if we will stay until then. I answered no and greeted them Advance Happy Fiesta 🙂 Then we walk away with our Salonpas hehe…
Me talking to Jhe and Pong – wow… rosy cheeks na ko hehe (Wow… I have rosy cheeks (feeling pretty, since it’s difficult to have rosy cheeks when you’re brown (kayumanggi))
Jhe (my husband) – anong rosy cheeks… bingi ka pa rin sa dami ng tubig sa tenga mo. Sabi roasted cheeks (what rosy cheeks? You too deft because of the waters inside your ears… they said roasted cheeks (laughing out loud))
We are all laughing while taking our walk from the town back to Sabang beach.
*sorry for the translation 🙂
We left our things in the room and try to stay near the beach. To our surprise, the beach is crowded with surfers even though it’s already dark (7:00pm). We chat for a while with Mike and Christian then we went to Bay’s Inn for a free wifi. But sadly their internet is slow already and having problem with the connection. We don’t have TV in our room and we were craving to watch the fight between Gilas and Korea. We walk and look for eater with TV, then the rain fell and we ran for cover. We wait for the rain to stop then head toward our room, frustrated about the TV and too tired with the surfing activities. We sleep by 8:00pm.
Things to Remember:
- Bring power extension in case there is only one outlet provision in your room and your sharing it with your friends
- Bring shampoo & Soap and other toiletries
- Don’t forget your rash guard, well if you opt to wear two piece swim suit, just bring sun block
- Sun block, Sun block, Sun block…. (My skin ache due to sun burn… crying out loud).
Insight while surfing
• Be humble to learn the craft
• You have to learn it from the expert ~ surf instructor
• If you know the basics, you have to train and try and try and never stop trying till you catch your own waves
• Even though you don’t know how to swim (like me), you will survive, just don’t be afraid and trust the waves and your board
• It’s like ecstasy when your surfing with the waves
• I thought balance is difficult, it will be based on the surf board length of course
• You will learn how your clothes move inside a washing machine when you caught up and wipe-out , you will tumble and sometimes the board might hit your head so be cautious
• If there’s no pain then there’s no gain for you, it’s a real body pain from paddling to smashing to the waves and board, so be prepared
